Listen to the conversation between Anna and her English teacher, Mr. Alfa.
Anna: Mr. Alfa, I am sorry to take your time. I would like to discuss my writing assignment.
Mr. Alfa: Yes, Anna. Do you have any question on that project?
Anna: I am interested in taking environment as my topic. I am going to discuss “the role of teenagers in creating better environment.” However, I am not sure how to start. I would like to have your suggestion.
Mr. Alfa: Well, I think that’s a good choice of topic. I suggest that you specify the discussion. What do you think teenagers can do to create better environment?
Anna: There are a lot, of course. Should I write all of them?
Mr. Alfa: That’s it. Think of one specific thing which is very feasible done by a teenager. One consistent small step gives big change, remember?
Anna: I have once heard one teenager cleans his nearby river every week. Can I write about that?
Mr. Alfa: Sure. After deciding the specific topic, you can decide your exposition framework more easily. Divide your writing into three main parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. Then, write in points all you want to write in each part. Collect resources based on your framework, Anna. Also, it will be better if you can interview the teenager you mentioned. At last, start developing your writing. Don’t forget to reread and revise before you submit your writing.
Anna: Thank you very much, Mr. Alfa. That is very clear and I have some ideas how to start. I am going to do it right away.
Mr. Alfa: You are very welcome.
